Falcon Field is found to the to the north east of the Mesa central business district, of Maricopa County in Arizona. The airport is considered a reliever airport taking additional passengers for larger local airports.
The airport was originally started prior to World War two when a Hollywood producer formed Southwest Airways and created airfields to train pilots. The third airfield was Falcon Field, named after a British bird and this was a training base for British pilots. At the end of World War two the site was closed and the city of Mesa purchased the field back. It wasn’t until after 1965 that the city of Mesa began using the site as a civilian airfield.
