The Greater Rochester International Airport is found south west of the Rochester central business district in Monroe County of New York by three miles. The first developments of the airport began in 1927 with a hangar built and named Britton Field. The name was changed just a year later to Rochester Municipal Airport and improvements to runways were made and a second hanger was added. Monroe County took over control of the airport in 1948. Today the airport has a two level terminal building which received renovations in 2008.
