The West Palm Beach International Airport is found three miles to the west of Palm Beach in Florida and is named based on this. The airport originated in 1936 as Morrison Field with the first flight departing to New York. Just a year later hangars and the first terminal were built. During world war two the airport was used as a base with places taking off from Morrison en route to take part in D-Day. Services resumed from Morrison Field from 1947 and it was shortly after the airport changed its name to Palm Beach International Airport.
