Brittany ferries was formed in 1972 in order to transport foods between the ports of Roscoff and Plymouth. Since then it has developed into the leading maritime carrier on the Western and Central Channel accounting for over 50% of the traffic. Brittany ferries also plays a significant role in tourism in Western France and Northern spain by supplying self-drive holidays and acting as a tour operator in these regions.
